What Is A Critical Illness Rider?
A critical illness rider pays a fixed, lump-sum amount on the first diagnosis of a covered critical illness the actual medical bills incurred. This financial support can help the insured family member their family manage treatment costs, replace lost income, repay financial obligations or meet everyday expenses during recovery.
Designed for employer-employee groups, this rider can be added to an eligible Aviva group insurance plan, allowing employers to strengthen their employee benefits with additional critical illness protection at a nominal additional cost.
Important: The rider cannot be purchased independently and is available only with an eligible Aviva group insurance plan. The rider sum assured for each insured member cannot exceed the death sum assured under the applicable base plan.
What Does The Rider Cover?
If an insured member is diagnosed for the first time with a covered critical illness during the cover term, they will receive a fixed lump-sum amount equal to the rider sum insured is payable, provided they survives the applicable survival period specified in the policy document Once the benefit is paid, the rider cover for that insured member will cease.
- Survival period: The benefit is payable only if the insured member survives for 30 days from the date of first diagnosis of the critical illness.
- Waiting period: A 90-day waiting period applies from cover inception or reinstatement, during which no benefit is payable. It applies to all members of a new group and to new members of an existing group; existing members of a renewing group who have already completed the waiting period are not subject to it again.
No survival, maturity or surrender benefit is payable on expiry of membership or on termination of the insurance; this is a pure-protection rider.
What Is Not Covered?
No critical illness benefit is payable if the covered illness results, directly or indirectly, from any of the following:
- Pre-existing disease diagnosed or treated within 36 months before cover commencement (unless underwritten and accepted at inception).
- Any sickness-related condition manifesting within 90 days of commencement or latest revival.
